About This Content This expansion extends Field of Glory II back to 681 BC, and allows players to experience the last flowering of chariot warfare in the ancient near-East. It chronicles the decline and fall of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, the rise of the Median and Babylonian Empires, and the conquest of these and the Lydian and Egyptian Kingdoms by the Achaemenid Persians.The Neo-Assyrian Empire, founded in the late 10th century BC, reached its greatest extent at the end of the reign of Esarhaddon (681-669), stretching from Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) in the East to Cilicia (in southern Turkey) in the north-west, and Lower (northern) Egypt in the south-west.Its last strong king was Ashurbanibal (669-627), though Egypt seceded quietly during his reign. Following his death the situation rapidly deteriorated, with a series of civil wars. In 626 Babylonia rose in revolt. Between 616 and 609 the Assyrian Empire was destroyed by an alliance of Medes and Babylonians. The Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar II then took over most of the former Assyrian Empire, only Egypt remaining independent. The Medes carved out a large empire in the north and east, halted in the west only by the Lydian Kingdom in western Asia Minor. By the mid 6th century BC, the fertile crescent was divided between four powerful states, the Neo-Babylonian Empire, the Median Empire and the Kingdoms of Lydia and Egypt.In 553 Cyrus II the Great, King of the small Persian Kingdom of Anshan in the Persian Gulf, revolted against his overlord and grandfather, the Median King Astyages, and took over the Median Empire, which thus became the Achaemenid Persian Empire. He conquered Lydia in 546 and Babylon in 539. Egypt was conquered by his son Cambyses II in 525. Interesting mix of new units that explores a period of history seldom seen in games, and you can tell the devs took time to develop the factions with unique looks\/units. Ive loved the Egyptians Assyrians, Babylonions and Persians and wanted to see something in game exclusively for this in a good game. I had not bought the base game and it sat in my wish list for too long. I saw this DLC and the game went from wishlist to purchase in ten seconds. I have reviewed the game for the dozen hours Ive played (and I know thats not much but I have given it a huge thumbs up) But the dozen hours Ive played 11 have gone to this DLC. First the units are gorgeous. I did buy the complete bundle and have looked at a few other units and Im impressed with the other units in look but Im highly impressed with the Persians, Medes, Babylonians, Assyrians and even the Jews I played against The Babylonian invasion of Judea. If you know the ancient history of this region, it deals with the Fall of Assyria to the rise and fall of Babylon and the rise of Persia. With many battles with Egypt as both Assyria and Babylon battles as they went into the Nile. As I have only scratched the surface of this DLC and game for this matter I cant give an indepth tactic review but Ive noticed some historical feel. If you have griped like me about not enough attention to this time period in a wargame, gripe no more. I give my recommendation and I still havent delved into the Elamites, Phonecians and other factions that come with it. One thing for sure this game and all the other DLC's are going to keep me occupied for quite awhile. Oh, this is a good one. Playing the original release of FoG II, chariots had their uses (very, very rarely), but were mostly wasted units. In Rise of Persia, they can wreak havok against the lighter troops that armies deploy in this period. There are four great campaigns, covering Assyria, Persia, Nebuchadnezzar II, and so on. If it feels vaguely biblical, it is, in the most epic sense of the word.I wasn't very excited by this DLC when it was announced- I like Persia, but thought I perfered the Sassanid armies. I was wrong. Excellent DLC with a great patch, too. 9\/10.. We've got Egyptians.12\/10 best game..
